<div>Hi all,</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>It seems the MAG has got into a bit of a panic over this.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I think we should support the process (thank you Cheryl!) but at the</div>
<div>same time send the text that came from discussions on our last call to</div>
<div>the open IGF consultation (hope those who will be in Geneva will speak</div>
<div>to it). Send the text to the MAG organized mailing list as well.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>At this stage I wouldn't make the regional meetings the absolute focal</div>
<div>points. For example, we haven't had any discussions about using the</div>
<div>APrIGF to aggregate issues from any national or sub-regional IGFs.</div>
<div>Until things are clearer, leave it as all coordinators are equal. How</div>
<div>the session is arranged can then come from agreement among the</div>
<div>coordinators and their groups, rather than MAG.</div>

<div>Dear Cheryl and APrIGF PC,</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I'm in Medellín at the Lacnic 19 meeting. I've just had lunch with Ricardo</div>
<div>Pedraza, Valeria Betancourt and Julián Casasbuenas to talk about how the</div>
<div>regional/national IGFs will report/contribute to the global IGF. As you</div>
<div>know, Ricardo has been appointed to coordinate the working group to come up</div>
<div>with a proposal about how the regional/national IGFs session/track should be</div>
<div>conducted. A mailing list has been created, but no one besides Ricardo has</div>
<div>subscribed to it up until today</div>
<div>(<a href="http://mail.wgig.org/mailman/listinfo/regionaltrack_intgovforum.org">http://mail.wgig.org/mailman/listinfo/regionaltrack_intgovforum.org</a>). Hope</div>
<div>you have already subscribed. This group has only one week to put something</div>
<div>together before the MAG meeting, with a lot of other meetings in between, so</div>
<div>I believe it will be really important to share the proposal that Adam put</div>
<div>together and we discussed. I'm happy to help you with this, if need it.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>At lunch, the ideas they shared (most of them in agreement with our</div>
<div>proposal) are:</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>* To prepare prior to the global IGF, regional reports (that articulate the</div>
<div>national events) using a common template and circulate it</div>
<div>* To have roundtable/working session at the beginning of the IGF agenda,</div>
<div>where regional IGFs will work to identify common topics, challenges and</div>
<div>discuss methodological approaches that support the discussion, is open for</div>
<div>remote participation, open consultation, responding to the people not in the</div>
<div>room</div>
<div>* To use the format already in place at the IGF for the cross-cutting themes</div>
<div>as a tool to identify/monitor/capture contributions and topics raised at the</div>
<div>regional IGFs and how they are incorporated into workshops and main sessions</div>
<div>* To use the taking-stock mechanism to report back to the plenary and move</div>
<div>the discussions forward</div>
<div>* To identify a mechanism to bring the discussion from the global IGF back</div>
<div>to the regional spaces to keep moving forward</div>
<div>* They think that this space should focus on the regional IGFs and that the</div>
<div>national/subregional IGFs should find ways to interact with the regional</div>
<div>ones, considering the large amount of national IGFs conducted in Europe and</div>
<div>how difficult it will be on a roundtable to go into that level of detail.</div>
<div>Although they acknowledge that can cause difficulties/challenges to the rIGF</div>
<div>organizers. Of course, if a methodological solution can be found about how</div>
<div>to be able to realistically incorporate the national IGFs into this process.</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Hope this contributes to the discussion on this space :)</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>All the best,</div>

<div>I'm not sure that it's open to all involved in national and regional</div>
<div>IGFs, so far it seems mainly MAG and a few invited people. And the</div>
<div>task of the group the MAG's setting up "is to come up with a concept</div>
<div>on how best to integrate the regional/national IGF initiatives in a</div>
<div>meaningful way into the programme for Bali." I think a proposal from</div>
