[Rigf_program] Starting 2013 with a few questions

Apologies for coming in late to the discussion. The email system was down Thursday morning and down again sometime during the Lunar New Year break. I thought my low email volume was due to the holiday but I guess now not.

To answer Kilnam's query:

>> The programme committee did good work for sure, however the manner of its constitution needs to be improved, to ensure that it is properly assembled as a multistakeholder group. We have discussed the assembly of the Multistakeholder Steering Group to do the work of the programme committee, however that still needs to be finalised.

The background to this is that the way the APrIGF is to be organised should reflect the spirit of the multistakeholder process. This means the inclusion of government and business with us the civil society group. The group of us who started the APrIGF had done so with little support from government and business. This is probably understandable in Asia as governments and business are cautious about this new entity.

We believe we have reached a certain level of credibility so that both government and business are now more forthcoming. They are participating in the conference as speakers and sponsors.

We need to involve both stakeholder groups more and earlier at the pre-conference organising stage.

There have been some exchanges around this issue as it involves the legitimacy of the group organising the event, as well as the event itself.

Izumi has been drafting a couple of documents regarding the issue. It will be an item for discussion at the coming teleconference as well as APRICOT meeting.

What your community can do is to ensure that at the minimum, representatives from the three stakeholder groups are invited to be part of the local hosting committee. Ideally, all three groups would have an equal number of equally enthusiastic representatives. Well aware that we are not in paradise (yet), in practice an invitation to ensure that no group is left out should suffice for now.

Regards,
Peng Hwa

paul and others,

will you elaborate more on this matter specifically?
